What should I do now that I own a stock has been delisted?
I have several hundred shares of American Mortgage Acceptance Company, which was recently delisted from the NYSE, where he was listed as the AMC. Now traded over the counter as AMOA. My holdings are now essentially worthless (value a penny per share) and I'm trying to figure out what to do. Any idea how should I proceed? fiscally prudent, I expect to make more money next year I'm going to this year, if that's a consideration.
That almost certainly will want to sell shares to claim the loss on your tax return. If you are going to do the same amount this year and next year will likely want to sell this year because, unless you make over $ 200,000 a year, your tax bracket is likely to lower this year. If you hope to do more next year than this year, you probably want to wait until the next year, as it is likely that a higher level next year's tax. If you fall somewhere in between, you have to guess whether the "class half tax cut "happens next year and what impact will this have on your tax bracket. If I were in that position and do not know, probably be sold this year. It's been a lot of years since I had a short in my own worthless stock, but it used to be many brokers to buy shares for a nominal sum and often forgiving the Commission on such operations. I have no idea if that is still true. ------------- FWIW one of the other answers he has recommended your broker say it is useless action. If it continues to negotiate, yet only a fraction of a penny per share, the tax code does not allow anyone declare worthless shares. For details, see http://www.fairmark.com/capgain/worthless.htm
