In case of foreign citizens to pay tax on stock trading online?
Hi, I'm an international student in the U.S. and I will return to my country in a year. I want to buy and sell shares in U.S. online (at Tradeking.com, Zecco, or Scottrade), but I do not know if I have to pay taxes on my winnings at this point. I mean, if I won $ 5k for online business, I pay taxes here in the U.S. or in my country. I do not know how taxes work in the U.S., all I know is that the IRS collects. So what should I do before starting to trade online? PS. The websites ask your number Social Security and do not have one.
If you are not a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident can not open a brokerage account in the U.S.. This is the reason why ask for your Social Security Number.
